OTC MUSIC SERIES

ORGANIZER: MARNIE KLEIN

The purpose of the OTC Music Series is to establish The Brooks as a viable concert venue for performing artists, enrich the artistic presence in downtown Oceanside, and offer a quality concert entertainment option to residents and tourists in North San Diego County.

As some of us may recall, Oceanside used to host a summer concert series at the amphitheater, featuring headlining rock and roll acts. One of the goals in establishing the OTC Music Series was to fill this void. OTC began its music series in 2012 with its inaugural event, Blue Christmas, which featured the premiere jazz ensemble, Blue Chunks. The event was a holiday collision of jazz and art, which eventually led to the establishment of a fine art gallery in the theatre lobby, known today as The Gallery at The Brooks Theatre.

Since 2012, OTC has averaged three to four concerts a year, featuring jazz, classical, blues, country, American roots music and rock and roll. Ticket costs rage from $15 to $20 per show. Concert goers are invited to arrive early for Happy Hour featuring snacks, drink specials and preshow entertainment in the theatre lobby. As always, The Gallery at The Brooks Theatre offers an additional sensory experience for show patrons. The OTC Music Series events not only offer quality entertainment, but they positively impact local business, restaurants and hotels with theatre traffic and establish Oceanside as a vibrant destination for arts and culture.

Spend a wildly fun summer night celebrating some of the most feel-good, powerful iconic grooves from the 60s and 70s.  Entertainer Rosemary Watson (of whom Carol Burnett calls herself ‘a fan’) and an all-star 4-piece band will have you smiling from ear to ear listening to unique renditions of Marvin Gaye, Carole King, Genesis, Stevie Wonder, Todd Rundgren, Sergio Mendes and many more.

Rosemary is a comedic actress and voiceover artist as well as classically trained singer and musician. Her vocal style is part jazz, pop and R&B. A regular on programs like The Tonight Show and The Howard Stern Show, her voice can be heard every day, around the world, in a wide range of mediums.  Emmy winner and Grammy nominated instrumentalist and producer Allan Phillips has performed with everyone from Bob Hope to Donna Summer and Kenny Rogers. NASA even selected his original composition to be played on the Endeavor space shuttle.  Bassist Cecil McBee has played with Hubert Laws, Angela Bofield, Chante Moore and is one of San Diego’s most requested players. Seasoned drummer Russell Bizzett began touring the world at 19, drumming for Jose Feliciano. He covered the rock world with Tommy Bolin (James Gang, Deep Purple). Guitarist Bryan Whelan is known for his immense versatility. In addition to performing with numerous well-known bands throughout San Diego he leads The Waldorf School band.

Whether you lived the music or not, you will be transported by the pure, soulful sounds from an era filled with great vibes, real heart and deep soul.  What’s Going On is what’s going on July 29th!

Virtuoso ukulele player and composer Taimane Gardner has been blowing away audiences for most of her life.  A prodigy with an infectious zest, Taimane was a featured performer with legendary crooner, Don Ho, before going on to perform around the world, opening for Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Jimmy Buffett, Chris Isaak, and many more. Whether delicately finger-picking through Bach or radically ripping through Led Zeppelin, Taimane has the ability to morph genres – from classical to rock to flamenco – and stretch her instrument far beyond the familiar melodies of Hawai`i, where she grew up.  In addition to performing her own distinctive versions of well-known pieces, Taimane weaves in original compositions that are as far ranging as her musical tastes. With the fierceness of a rocker, and the grace of a dancer, Taimane lights up rooms wherever she goes.  Don’t miss this chance to see Taimane live in concert.  Doors open at 6:30pm for Happy Hour.  Show starts at 7:30pm.  $25 general admission, $35 VIP ticket includes preshow meet & greet with Taimane, complimentary drink ticket.
